It doesn’t make sense

Two updates in two days. Yeah. Big news.

I don’t know what to feel. Am I angry? Am I sad? Am I frustrated? Hungry? (Always hungry.) Dejected, despondent, disillusioned, disgusted. More thesaurus words. In mourning for the world I thought I knew, now that the final delusion that we live in a just world has been stripped away.

In what kind of country can one standard of jurisprudence apply to the elite and another to the hoi polloi? In what kind of country does the police officer decide whether or not charges are warranted? In what kind of country is “gross negligence” different from “extreme carelessness?” Those two phrases mean the saME FUCKING THING.

So we have the director of the FBI coming right out and saying that classified information was mishandled. Every box for gross negligence was ticked. Hillary Clinton violated the letter of the law, once again — and once again, she’s going to get away with it.

I don’t know how you can have evidence in hand of wrongdoing and choose to look the other way. And for that matter, why is it up to the FBI to decide whether or not she deserves to go to jail for what she did? Why isn’t the FBI upholding the law as written? Determinations of guilt or innocence are for a jury, not for the police — theirs is to gather evidence, not to evaluate it. Right? Isn’t that how it works? Or has Law and Order been lying to me all these years?

This “great” country is fast becoming a mockery of itself. The nation that bills itself as the champion of equality, democracy, and justice is in fact a house divided, with one America for the rich and powerful and another for everyone else. It isn’t right, it isn’t fair, it isn’t just. And there’s no authority to which we can appeal to make it so.

I don’t understand it. Why spread all those rumors about “we’ll resign if the Attorney General doesn’t accept our recommendation,” if you weren’t for sure that you were going to indict? That’s not the kind of thing you say unless your case is open and shut. And by all accounts, it was — the director of the FBI as much as said so.

Hillary Clinton committed a felony, probably multiple felonies. If it were literally anyone else, they’d be staring down a federal indictment and the walk of shame. But because she’s going to be our next President, she gets off the hook.

It sickens me. It offends me. It rankles me to have to live in a country where the laws don’t apply equally to all. It disgusts me to have a federal police force that is too craven to uphold the law. And it infuriates me that nobody cares, at least not enough to do anything about it.

All I know how to do is make noise. Point out the bullshit in the hopes that someone more competent will bloody do something about it, or at least join me in making noise. Liberty is dying, my siblings. Liberty cannot suffer leaders who are above the law, and so it is dying.

What are you going to do to save it?
